Is Abortion Pill Reversal Hard on Your Body?

Having an abortion may bring on a tidal wave of emotion. Women have reported feelings of relief, regret, grief, joy, and anxiety. Everyone’s body is unique, and you never know how your body will handle an abortion until you’re walking through it.

If you’ve started the process of chemical abortion but are having second thoughts, you might still be in the time frame to reverse the procedure.

Below is a more detailed look at what the abortion pill reversal looks like and where you can go to receive the treatment.

How Does Abortion Pill Reversal Work?

The first medication given in the abortion pill process is mifepristone. Mifepristone blocks a woman’s production of the hormone progesterone, which causes the uterus to thin and forces the growing pregnancy to detach and die.

Your body needs high doses of progesterone to reverse the effects of the abortion pill. Progesterone is typically given orally, vaginally, or by injection throughout the first trimester.

Is It Safe For Me and My Pregnancy?

Yes! Naturally occurring progesterone has been a medical treatment for high-risk mothers for decades.

One study specifically measured the outcome of abortion pill reversal using progesterone and found that the treatment was successful 68% of the time. The study also noted no increase in congenital disabilities in women who had their chemical abortion reversed via progesterone.

Likewise, no significant side effects have been linked to reversing the abortion pill.
